These days there is a lot of talk about “the Cloud” but other than Apple’s ICloud there are actually a number of different choices such as Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive and more. Suddenly the Cloud has gotten very competitive. So how do you know which Cloud is right for you? It pays to know your options.

Dropbox
Dropbox was not the first Cloud storage service to come to the market but it’s been a pioneer along the way. It’s simple to use. Toss a file into a folder and it instantly appears on any other device that you connect to your account. That’s extremely handy and they offer a number of services making it very flexible. You receive a certain amount of storage free and if you need more you can pay. DropBox is available to be used on Android and iOS clients.

Google Drive
Google Drive offers you Cloud that’s similar to Dropbox – drag and drop. Google Drive ties to Google Docs and a handful of other Chrome apps and can support as many as 30 different file types. Google Drive is available to be used on Android and iOS clients. You receive a certain amount of storage free and if you need more you can pay.

Apple iCloud
Apple iCloud offers the same type of features that DropBox offers. Nearly 70 percent of the 350+ million iDevices on the market use Apple iCloud. You can connect calendar, mail, contacts, documents, backups, and more. All of this can be synchronized and stored on the Cloud. You can’t just throw any file up there. You will need to make sure it will meet your actual needs however, as not all files allowed. You have a certain amount of free storage with Apple iCloud and then you can pay extra for more. One perk is the $25 a year for iTunes Match.

Skydrive
Sydrive is a Microsoft Cloud app. Life Mesh will allow you to fetch any file from your computer remotely and Microsoft is very excited about offering this capability. There are mobile apps available for Windows and iOS phones.
